The Gyan Fernando Gallery
Over the years I have done some cartoons to illustrate the whimsical and witty stories of Gyan Fernando. Some have these have been published in the Sri Lanka Sunday Times, some on his online blog. Links to his blog can be found to the right of this page. Like me Gyan is Sri Lankan born but has spent many years abroad. We both share a love of Sri Lankan Railway locomotives and our favourite movie star is Mr. Daffy Duck Esq.
Below are samples of some of the artwork I have done for his stories.

Kids and kids
The Chinese Year of the Horse has galloped past and the Year of the Goat is born. I have some experience with goats as my maternal grandmother used to have one or two in Jaffna at our ancestral home in Thavady.
As young children we found the goats and their young (kids) more approachable than the cows and calves- mainly due the fact they were smaller than the cows and not so intimidating.
I've noticed many times, young children being fascinated by young goats or sheep and especially enjoying feeding them.
So since kids love kids, it prompted me to draw the above illustration.

Orthogonal Animals
The first post for 2015. I started drawing after watch the Disney cartoon movie "The Jungle Book" which features animals. I am also a big fan and avid watcher of wildlife documentaries on television. So drawing animal characters is my main interest. As an architect I represent buildings on drawings in an orthogonal format, plans and elevations. So orthogonal animals is cartoon sketches of animals presented in a plan and elevation format- combining my hobby and my profession. This arose out of some doodling I used to do during meetings when I got bored.

Cookbook Cartoons
These illustrations were done for a privately published recipe book, which was given out as a souvenir.
I used the names of the various dishes to come up with the cartoons and enjoyed the process. After I long time I reverted to a style that appeals to me, that of using a thick outline.
